Africa FutureTech Summit 2024 Successfully Launches

 Virtual Opening Ceremony and 10-Day Virtual Bootcamp on Web 3, ICP, and Blockchain Technology

The Africa FutureTech Summit 2024 kicked off with a highly successful virtual opening ceremony, marking the beginning of an intensive 10-day Virtual Bootcamp focused on Web 3, Internet Computer Protocol (ICP), and Blockchain Technology. The event, held on July 29, 2024, via Google Meet, brought together students, entrepreneurs, faculty and industry leaders, innovators, and technology enthusiasts from across the globe.

Opening Ceremony Highlights

The opening ceremony featured keynote addresses from renowned figures in the technology, innovation and business sectors. The lineup included:

1. Mr. Fredrick Nonde Jr., Executive Board Chairman & CEO of Motley Institute of Business & Technology (MIBT), Zambia, who emphasized the significance of embracing emerging technologies for Africa's development.

2. Dr. Godfrey Mwewa, MIBT Advisory Board Chairman and Senior Lecturer at the University of Zambia (UNZA), Zambia, extended a very warm welcome to all in attendance and encouraged collaboration among the stakeholders in-order to attain educational and economic impacts of Web 3 technologies.

3. Mr. Raj Kapoor, Founder and CEO of India Blockchain Alliance and Founder and Board Chairman of Indo Zambia Blockchain Alliance, India, discussed the collaborative efforts between India and Zambia in advancing blockchain technologies.

4. Dr. T X Ananth, University Council President at DMI St. Eugene University, Tanzania, spoke on the role of academic institutions in nurturing future tech leaders.

5. Mr. Johnson Kumwenda, MIBT Director for Startups and Entrepreneurship Development, Zambia, outlined the support systems available for startups venturing into the Web 3 and blockchain spaces.

6. Mr. Siita Sofo Hissan, President of AfCFTA Young Entrepreneurs Federation (AfYEF), Ghana, highlighted the entrepreneurial opportunities arising from Web 3 innovations across the AfCFTA Ecosystem.

7. Mr. Pravin Maharaj, Chairman of Trade BRICS, South Africa, provided insights into the trade implications of Web 3 and blockchain technology.

8. Mr. Henok Belay, CEO of HBGB, Ethiopia, discussed the integration of blockchain solutions in various industries.

9. Mr. Confidence Nyirenda, Developer at Mzansi Web 3 ICP HUB SA, Zimbabwe, and Mr. Enock Chirima, Developer at Mzansi Web 3 ICP HUB SA, South Africa, spoke on the technical aspects of Web 3 development and the importance of skill-building while highlighting the objectives of the 10 Day’s Virtual Bootcamp.

The opening ceremony set the stage for the 10-day Virtual Bootcamp, where participants will engage in workshops, hands-on sessions, and networking opportunities to deepen their understanding and practical skills in Web 3, ICP, and Blockchain Technology. This will culminate into a 2 Days Hackathon at the Africa FutureTech Summit and viable innovations will be developed into Web 3 Tech Start-ups.

  • Morning: Workshops on emerging trends such as quantum computing, edge computing, and space technology.
  • Afternoon: Startup Pitch Competition featuring pitches from Africa's most promising tech startups.
  • Evening: Industry Forums on fintech, agritech, healthtech, and renewable energy solutions.

Day 5

  •  Morning: Diplomatic Sessions: Roundtable discussions and presentations for diplomatic missions and international organizations.
  • Afternoon: Sessions on Climate Change and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), and a side event on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
  • Evening: Official launch of the Indo Zambia Blockchain Alliance, Farewell Reception, and Awards Ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions and achievements in Africa's tech ecosystem.
